However, by the end of the month the joys of motoring are waning as the car is plagued by problems following heavy rain. On 29th June Britten writes in his diary ‘The rain lasts until mid-day and it is the worst possible day for Beth and me to start in the Lagonda for town. ……after a journey fraught with perils - all from the wet through a leaking hood – and a large number of stoppages we arrive at the flat at 2.40’.
