Britten bought his first car, a Lagonda, with his sister Beth for £6 on 27 May 1936. He wrote in his diary on 1 June 1936 ‘Spend whole morning until 12.0 odd playing about with the car – cleaning, oiling repairing etc. a thing quite unbelievable for me before today! Then Beth, Mum and I go out for a picnic’. |
