In this scene from Peter Grimes, the outcast fisherman Grimes bursts into the Borough pub, ‘The Boar’, and pours his heart out, only to be scorned by the townspeople: 'He's mad or drunk. Why's that man here?'. The photograph shows Peter Pears in the title role, in a 1958 revival of the opera at Covent Garden in London.
