Exploring the Aldeburgh area

Visiting Aldeburgh, and exploring the beautiful countryside that inspired so much of his music, will add a wonderful new dimension to your appreciation of Britten. As well as The Red House, there are many other places to visit, delightful places to stay, and fine local food and drink.
Snape Maltings Concert Hall is, of course, a must for any Britten fan, particularly when Aldeburgh Music has events scheduled there. Other venues, such as the Jubilee Hall and many of the area's wondeful medieval churches, are also important parts of the Britten story - and still very much used today for a wide range of performances.
Or do as Britten did - almost daily - and enjoy the shingle beaches, winding rivers, reed beds and sandy heathland of the Suffolk coast: one of England's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is one of the best places in the country for birdwatching, walking, sailing and cycling.
Stay in The Red House grounds
There are many excellent places to stay in the Aldeburgh, but one option is to stay here in the house that Britten and Pears built in the grounds for their housekeeper, Miss Hudson.
Cosy Nook is available for short breaks through local company Suffolk Secrets . The income we receive helps to support the Foundation's work.
