Getting to The Red House

By road

From the A12, take the A1094 to Aldeburgh. At the roundabout past the supermarket, take the first exit: the B1122 Leiston Road. Golf Lane is the second turning on the left, directly after the 40mph speed limit ends. Golf Lane has a gravelled surface and there are three unmarked speed humps before you reach the white gates of The Red House. 

Users of satnav systems and online maps should note that entering our postcode (IP15 5PZ) will misdirect you into Linden Close, part of which runs parallel with Golf Lane as shown below. There is no public access to The Red House from Linden Close, nor from the south end of Golf Lane (near the golf club).

There is visitor parking space at the front of The Red House, and turning space for minibuses and small coaches. Full-size coaches must not attempt to drive up Golf Lane, but should drop off and pick up their passengers at the Leiston Road end of the lane.  

By rail and bus

There are frequent main line rail services from London Liverpool Street to Ipswich. At Ipswich, change to the Ipswich–Lowestoft branch line. Alight at Saxmundham. (Please note that weekend services are occasionally liable to disruption.) There is no rail link directly to Aldeburgh, but the town is served by bus services from Saxmundham and other local towns.

On foot

Although The Red House is secluded, it is not off the beaten track. In fact, the popular Suffolk Coasts and Heaths long-distance footpath runs right past our front gate. The path extends for 50 miles, through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Felixstowe and Lowestoft. It is marked on Ordnance Survey maps, and a printed guide is available from the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Unit and local Tourist Information Centres.
